Alterations to the Interior and Exterior is Estimated to Take One Year

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has announced that the south entrance of the Lexington Market Metro Station on Lexington Street will remain closed for about a year, starting from May 12, 2008. An enhancement project has been launched to install important customer safety features and to alter the appearance of the exterior and interior of the station.

On Tuesday June 3rd, 2008 in the HS/HSL Gladhill Board Room, IT personnel representing all schools, departments and UPI’s at UMB, met to share information regarding current IT activities. Chief Information Officer, Peter Murray, Ph.D. presided over the meeting, which meets regularly to assess university needs.

Project Jumpstart’s Tuesday and Friday food distribution evenings have relocated to the kitchen in the Student Center on North Pine Street. The twice weekly event had previously been held in the lobby of Pharmacy Hall, but the recent renovations in that area required PJS to make the move several weeks ago.

Earlier this month, the Graduate Program in Life Sciences (GPILS) announced its award winners for the academic year 2007-08. Recipients of these awards were chosen by an awards committee chaired by Dr. Achsah Keegan, Professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

For the past several years, many UMB students, faculty and staff have been pushing the UMB administration to launch a recycling program on campus. A few weeks ago, their efforts paid off as the university's Facilities Management department began placing recycling bins throughout campus.

At a safety awareness meeting held on May 8, Cleveland Barnes, Chief of University Police, outlined new initiatives being undertaken by University Police to address changes on campus. Due to construction taking place in several areas across campus, University Police has implemented more bike patrols to cover difficult traffic routes and improve response time.

Technology services were distributed among the individual schools, resulting in decentralized IT systems that even utilized separate email services.
