Greene St. Shut Down Through Campus Due to Fire
On the afternoon of October 15, an underground fire in front of the University of Maryland Medical Center forced the closure of Greene Street and snarled evening rush hour traffic. The fire started when a contractor working on an asbestos abatement project struck an underground power line with a jackhammer.

On September 27, 2008 a Maryland State Police medical rescue helicopter crashed in Prince George's County just before midnight, killing all but one of the crew members and passengers onboard. Paramedics and state troopers were transporting two victims of a car accident to a hospital when the crash occurred.

New Student Group Promotes Voter Enfranchisement

The National Lawyers Guild was founded by law school students in part to register convicts and naturalized citizens to vote
Only a month old, the student chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (University of Maryland School of Law) mobilized in early October to register disenfranchised voters at the Baltimore City Jail and federal courthouse. Besides helping nearly 200 detainees and recently naturalized citizens register to vote, the group organized an upcoming Legal Observer Training and a fundraiser to underwrite future activities.

CSSA Sponsors Annual Moon Festival Celebration

On Saturday, October 4, the UMB Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), with co-sponsorship from USGA, celebrated its annual Moon Festival in the MSTF Atrium and Auditorium. The entire campus community was invited to enjoy the festivities and feast that the CSSA provided.
