“Take early retirement,” my Hopkins academic colleague suggested, when I told her I was leaving my job. My response was to start nursing school at age 57, one of 60 students and 6 men in our master’s level Clinical Nurse Leader program at the University of Maryland.

A new University of Maryland, Baltimore policy has all the smokers wondering where they will go, and it has me wondering where all of our civil liberties have gone. In addition to previously prohibited areas, like inside buildings or within 30 feet of any building entrance, smokers are now banned from puffing away on any campus property.
