Construction on the Pharmacy Hall addition will face a minor delay according to a release issued by School of Pharmacy’s Dean’s office last Friday, May 30. According to the release, there was a delay by Governer Martin O’Malley in signing the bill that would allow construction to begin. The state legislature approved the $62 million addition on April 7 of this year after more than a decade of lobbying by the university. O’Malley reportedly had a large number of bills to sign that were enacted by the legislature during the most recent session, resulting in minor delays in signing them all.

Whiting Turner, the company hired to demolish the existing parking lot and surrounding area, was originally slated to begin work on June 2. They are now expected to begin demolition on June 11, and the minor setback is not expected to impact the anticipated completion time for the addition.

In addition to the release Dean’s Office Spokesperson Bill Cooper announced that there are also some changes in the design detail that may be expected to benefit students. He said, “Some changes in the design include a small fireplace where students can congregate in the back of the lounge. The kitchen is vastly improved. There is lots of small meeting spaces for student’s that I feel really good about after having seen them do without for so many years.”
