Discussions Focus on Student Needs

Construction on the Pharmacy Hall addition has begun in earnest. The Maryland legislature approved $62 million in funding for the project in April of this year after nearly a decade of lobbying by the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The construction has caused rerouting of both pedestrians and vehicle traffic, and though the foundation has yet to be poured, discussions about the internal elements of the building are already well under way.

UMB Campus Police arrested a man carrying a crude explosive in his backpack on Tuesday morning. A man, who was behaving suspiciously, was stopped and questioned by a police officer around 7.30 am near the UMB Biopark Parking lot. When the officer tried to frisk him, a scuffle ensued, at which time a makeshift bomb fell out of his bag.

The School of Pharmacy awards a number of competitive fellowships to students each year including the Graduate Student Teaching Fellowship Award, Pharmaceutical Sciences Departmental Fellowship Awards, and Merit Awards. The School of Pharmacy Graduate initiated the Student Teaching Fellowship Award in 2007 to promote training of future educators and academicians.

In a recent press release, Karen H. Rothenberg, JD, Dean of the University of Maryland, School of Law has announced that she will step down from her position on June 30, 2009. Rothenberg- the first woman to serve as Dean of the Law School- has led the school for nearly ten years.
Weekend Travelers Should Consider Alternate Routes

The eastbound lane of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge has been shut down for emergency repairs following detection of what officials are calling minor problems during an inspection. The inspection came as a result of a three car accident on August 10 that caused a tractor trailer to swerve off the bridge, damaging the jersey railing and resulting in the death of the driver.
